The main research activity of the department of pulsed power technology is the research and development of the scientific and technological bases for the generation of repetitive high voltage pulses (> 10 Hz) with very high power (> 1 gigawatt) and pulse energy (> 1 kilojoule) for applications in environmental and biotechnology as well as in energy technology.
Currently the following topics are being worked on:
- Interaction of pulsed electric fields and discharges with biological cells
- Surface modification of materials with pulsed electron beams
- Fragmentation and separation of composites and minerals using pulsed electrical discharges
- Further development of high-voltage generators (Marx generators) and components (high-power switches) for applications under industrial conditions
