Department of Pulsed Power Technology

The main research activity of the department of pulsed power technology is the research and development of the scientific and technological bases for the generation of repetitive high voltage pulses (> 10 Hz) with very high power (> 1 gigawatt) and pulse energy (> 1 kilojoule) for applications in environmental and biotechnology as well as in energy technology.

Currently the following topics are being worked on:
  • Interaction of pulsed electric fields and discharges with biological cells
  • Surface modification of materials with pulsed electron beams
  • Fragmentation and separation of composites and minerals using pulsed electrical discharges
  • Further development of high-voltage generators (Marx generators) and components (high-power switches) for applications under industrial conditions
